About

Alert Today is published by ALERT (American League for Effective Responses to Terrorism), a non-profit organization whose goals are to: (1) raise awareness regarding the growing threat of militant Islam; (2) provide resources for activists in communities nationwide; (3) confront anti-Israel propaganda and the new anti-Semitism.

We do not duplicate any existing Web sites and blogs currently presenting background information and commentary on these topics. We will be addressing the heretofore lack of a central place in Cyberspace providing practical assistance for organizing relevant educational projects and participatory events.

ALERT Blog is a one-stop-shopping nation-wide resource serving an emergent activist community via the following online programs:

  • announcements of upcoming relevant events
  • timely reviews and news accounts of relevant events
  • feature stories on activists, events, programs
  • opinion pieces evaluating efficacy of various programs
  • biographies & schedules of relevant speakers
  • store (or links to sources) for purchasing relevant DVDs/videos
  • workshop and templates for composing letters-to-editor & op ed pieces
  • how-to kits for educational programs & activist events

While Alert Today will provide an extensive listing of appropriate sites and blogs for browsers seeking background information and theoretical debate, our focus will be on the practical aspects of activism and we will publish only those comments pertaining to this focus.

Our approach to those visiting Alert Today will be facilitative in a networking capacity. We would, for instance, connect activists in contiguous areas intending to engage the same speaker and assist them in routing a tour that would make a speaking engagement feasible.

Other possibilities for both assisting and networking are sure to soon emerge as Alert Today develops an identity and a following among those who share our concerns and goals.

*ALERT was founded at the start of 2007 subsequent to a year-and-a-half of the following ad hoc activities:

  • organizing letter-writing campaign to area newspapers exposing biases of local peace group & marginalizing group’s extremists
  • presenting talk by Nonie Darwish promoted via press releases, print advertising, posters, broadcast interviews with Ms. Darwish
  • co-sponsoring screening of documentary “Obsession,” exposing Jihadia agenda
  • distributing over 150 Obsession DVDs with plans for wider distribution & potential for participation in production/distribution of future documentaries
  • developing ongoing connection with Steve Emerson’s Investigative Project on Terrorism with plans to develop similar cooperative relationships with other experts on the Middle East and terrorism.
